StreetGames harnesses the power of sport to create positive change in the lives of young people living in low-income and underserved communities right across the UK. StreetGames' work helps to make young people and their communities healthier, safer and more successful.

Sport is energetic, inclusive and enjoyable, but StreetGames' goal isn’t just about having fun. StreetGames believes in the power of sport to transform lives and to broaden ambitions.

Sport teaches key skills such as teamwork, understanding and self-discipline, brings people together, creates pride in a community, breaks down social boundaries, and inspires people to make a difference in their own lives and for others. Through sport, StreetGames can empower young people to kick-start a cycle of positive change that echoes throughout their entire community.

StreetGames' central method:

'Doorstep Sport' encapsulates many of these important qualities, offering fun and informal sports clubs that work to meet the needs of young people from low-income and underserved communities today - a staggering 70% of whom are not involved in structured activity elsewhere. They do this by operating according to the 'Five Rights of Doorstep Sport': being carried out at the right time, in the right place, with the right people, for the right price and in the right style to suit the needs of young people from low-income and underserved communities.

Why are you involved with Play Their Way?

StreetGames was a founding partner of the CCC because the data compels us to look differently at participation in sport. Young people’s needs are not being met by so many of the sports providers and coaches that are the backbone to our sector. Therefore, young people are not getting the benefits we all know sport can bring to their lives. StreetGames wants to play our part in changing this. The principles of the CCC and child-first coaching align totally with StreetGames’ methodology: Doorstep Sport. Doorstep Sport puts the voice of young people at the centre of decision making, planning, delivery and evaluation.

It is great to work with partners who are all so committed to putting children and young people at the centre of decision making. The principles of CCC underpin so much of the work that StreetGames enables: Doorstep Sport, delivered the brilliant Locally Trusted Organisations who put theory into practice week in week out in communities in the UK, often where others don’t work. I am pleased to see a national movement that champions the experience young people have of sport and coaching gain traction."
