Youth Sport Trust
The Youth Sport Trust is the UK's leading charity improving every young person's education and development through sport and play. Our vision is a future where every child enjoys the life changing benefits of play and sport.
Over 25 years we have developed a unique way of maximising the power of sport to grow young people, schools and communities through the development of physical and mental health, fostering inclusion and building character and leadership skills. We empower young people through supportive environments, so they can grow self confidence and find friendship.
We equip educators, grow networks and build communities of practice to demonstrate and advocate the impact of play and sport on school improvement and educational outcomes. We inspire changemakers who lead the change they want to see in the world.
Together, we can reduce the impact of childhood inequalities and ensure that every young person achieves their personal best.
Why are you involved with Play Their Way?
The Youth Sport Trust have a long-standing history of championing positive coaching for children. As an organisation actively involved in the school environment, we believe it is vital that the rights of children are at the forefront of their sporting experience. With over 70% of schools sharing in a recent report that spend of their Primary PE and Sport Premium is used on deployment of coaches, it is crucial that coaches of children have at their heart, the voice of the child and a child first approach.

We are proud to be one of the founding partners of the movement and know that the power of play and sport has the potential to change lives. Through our history we have been committed to listening to young people, reframing competition and creating more positive experiences in their sporting journeys. However, we know we cannot create change alone and we need as many people as possible to become changemakers and support the CCC to ensure more children get the opportunities to access inspiring and meaningful coaching that puts their needs at the centre.
The opportunity to work collaboratively with a range of organisations, all of whom are involved in the recruitment, development and or deployment of coaches was an exciting opportunity to ensure the outcome resulted in a genuine movement for change.
Having a collaborative that have committed to put the voices of children first, could play a significant part in turning the dial on engaging and retaining young people in sport and physical activity.
The big moment comes next, when coaches themselves engage and those who are developing the next generation of coaches help equip them with the skills and confidence to put the principles in action.
