Activity Alliance Logo

Activity Alliance is the national charity and leading voice for disabled people in sport and activity.

Our vision is a world where every child has access to positive sport experiences that foster a love for sport, play and physical activity.

Disabled people are the least active group in society and are twice as likely to be inactive than non-disabled people. This is not right or fair. Our strategy, fairness for disabled people in sport and activity, aims to close the fairness gap by focussing on these two key goals:

Embedding inclusive practice into organisations

Changing attitudes towards disabled people in sport and activity

We will achieve this by helping organisations to include disabled people, across all age ranges, in their programmes and support more disabled people to be active. We work with many organisations in a range of ways, so we are able to advise on and share better practices. Our support offers a wide range of insight, training, inclusion programmes and resources. This support is available for a wide range of audiences, including those who work with children and young people, community sport, leisure and education, or who are delivering strategies for local and national organisations.

Why are you involved with Play Their Way?

Activity Alliance are delighted to be a core partner of the Children’s Coaching Collaborative. We are committed in ensuring disabled children and young people are at the heart of all the work the collaborative does. We know from our research that disabled children and young people are less active than their peers, and experience more barriers. We strongly believe that this needs to change and that every child has the right to play in a way that suits their individual needs. For this to happen, we need more inclusive and person-centred coaches.

We hope that being a part of this movement will empower deliverers to provide more positive experiences for disabled children and young people in sport and activity. Being part of the collaborative so far has supported us to embed inclusive practices and principles within the campaign. The collaborative also provides the platform for us to champion young disabled people's voices. Helping us to change attitudes towards disabled people in sport and activity. It is exciting to be working in collaboration with national partners to help empower the sport and physical activity sector to allow children ‘To Play Their Way’.

Activity Alliance are delighted to be a core partner of the Children’s Coaching Collaborative. It’s been fantastic to learn from and influence the practice of other partners that are focussed on making physical activity and sport genuinely accessible, inclusive and enjoyable to all young people regardless of age, background or ability. Coaches have such an important role to play in shaping positive experiences, so anything that the CCC can do to support this in our books is invaluable."
