Philosophy

Great coaching has the ability to inspire every young person.

Our goal is for all children and young people — regardless of age, background or ability — to have a voice, choice and decide their journey when participating in sport and physical activity, so they develop a genuine and lifelong love for being active.

What is child-first coaching?

Child-first coaching is an evidence-informed approach that priorities the fundamental rights of all children and young people in sport and activity.

There are three key ingredients to this approach, as underpinned by the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child - the rights of children and young people to play, to develop and to be heard.

These rights will often be referred to as the following:

Voice

Children and young people have the right to express their views which are acted on together in a meaningful way.

Choice

Children and young people have the right to play and shape what play looks like.

Journey

Children and young people have the right to develop holistically, in their own way.

If we play their way, more children and young people will enjoy being active, with the potential to lead happier and healthier lives.

About us

Play their way is a movement of child-first coaches, organisations and people changing the game from the ground up.
